Since I enjoy computers & gadgets as well as the outdoors, sometimes they overlap and I discover some pretty cool things. My Kodak Playsport is going to be replaced by a Panasonic Lumix TS2. It’s a rugged camera that takes 720p and has numerous photo settings. My biggest complaint with my Playsport was that the 5mp photos weren’t that good. I’m going to use the TS2 and then give a review on it down the line. I’ve got to learn the camera and take some practice shots before making any decisions. A full description of the camera and it’s features can be found at http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/compact/ts2_ft2/
I’ve used a DeLorme PN-20 handheld GPS for a handful of years. I’m a big fan of it, but I don’t want to bring a handful of devices out into the woods when I can consolidate and bring fewer things out. I’ve been looking and trying a few iPhone apps and so far the best one I’ve tried is the AccuTerra Unlimited app. I’m going to continue to try it out and post up a review of it later as well. There are a lot of Topo Map apps but this one just seems to be the most useful for me and has the most features I want to use. Look for both reviews at the end of December or maybe early next year. I’m hoping that the app can replace my PN-20.
