Fly Fishing Show

Last weekend was the Fly Fishing Show in Marlborough, MA. I took Friday off so I could avoid the rush as much as possible. The show had everything a fly fishing enthusiast could want. There were endless rows of fly tying demo’s, tying equipment, rods, reels (for those that use them), hand crafted nets, fly fishing literature, and various other odds and ends. The main reason for me to go was to watch the Tenkara casting demonstration and talk to Daniel Galhardo, the founder of Tenkara USA. I’ve emailed Daniel quite a few times and he was nice enough to send me a demo rod so I could show others Tenkara fishing.

While I was there I met up with writer Tom Meade, who I showed Tenkara to earlier in the year. He found me at the Tenkara casting instruction. After the demonstration we set a time to meet back up for lunch. After lunch we met up with Daniel again in the destination theater section of the show, which is more a historical presentation. Daniel got into the origins of Tenkara and answered questions that some people had.

Throughout the day I met a lot of interested soon to be Tenkara anglers and some even have made plans with myself to fish. It was a lot of fun and I wish I had the time to go to more seminars. I look forward to fishing with those that wanted to learn Tenkara and I look forward to putting some of Daniels tips into action this year.
